Ice Cube and Dr. Dre have been frequently mentioned in the media recently with the release of the film “Straight Outta Compton.” Millions from Salt Lake City to Compton itself loved the movie and have read the news following the film. However, the movie’s success is only a portion of the press that Ice Cube and Dr. Dre have received as of late. Some people might not be aware of the wrongful death lawsuit that the two are also involved in.
In January, rapper Marion “Suge” Knight ran over two men also involved in the filming of “Straight Outta Compton.” The two men were Cle “Bone” Sloan and Terry Carter. Sloan was one of the technical advisors for the film and Carter was a Compton businessman.
Risky Filming?
Terry Carter’s wife, Lillian Carter hired a lawyer and filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Universal Studios, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre. According to the LA Times, Carter’s lawyer is accusing Universal Studios (along with Dr. Dre and Ice Cube) for “allowing production to continue in Compton in areas prone to crime.”
Marion “Suge” Knight” was hired to find gang members to be extras in the film. The Hollywood Reporter states, these extras were also there to “provide security for on-location shooting in gang-controlled neighborhoods.”
The Case Continues
Ice Cube and Dr. Dre asked technical advisor, Cle “Bone” Sloan to have Knight leave the set. After this request had been made, Knight, Sloan and Carter met in a restaurant parking lot. Knight ran over both Sloan and Carter “with the alleged intent of running over Sloan.” Sloan was injured and Carter was killed.
Carter E. Douglas, Lillian Carter’s lawyer in the wrongful death alleges that Dr. Dre and Ice Cube are partly responsible due to Knight’s reputation for violent behavior. While a conclusion has not yet been reached, people from Salt Lake City to the East Coast are curious to see the outcome of this case.
